Tragically Hip performing Tuesday
By Kevin Dowler Times Herald Staff Writer

People tragically dedicated to rock and roll will be treated to the Tragically Hip in Moose Jaw Tuesday.

The five young rockers from Kingston, Ont. will be preforming at Heritage Inn’s Watts on Main as part of a cross Canada tour.

“We’ve never been to Moose Jaw but we’ve heard a lot about it and looking forward to playing there,” said rhythm guitarist Paul Langlois. “You can expect a good live rock and roll show.”

The Hip has had two songs on the music charts and has two videos playing on national television off their most recent album ‘Up To Here’. The videos are ‘Blow at High Dough’ and ‘New Orleans is Sinking’.

Not a bad start for a relatively, new band.

It’s been a year since their album ‘Up To Here’, was released and Langlois said the band is getting itchy to put together another album.

“I don’t think we want to do another video from ‘Up to Here’ I think we are all ready to get to work on our next album, “ he said.

Tuesday’s show includes new songs as well as songs from their first recording effort, a self titled mini album done two years ago.

It was that independent released, self titled album which caught the attention of the MCA Canada label which they are now working with.

“It’s been great so far,” Langlois said about having major label backing. “They just let us do our thing.”
And from the music loving public’s response, letting The Hip do their own thing is the right formula.

While on tour they find more people showing up to see The Hip, rather than people stumbling upon them by surprise unaware of the blast of rollicking guitars and solid rhythm they are in store for.

The Hip always knew they were on to something good The band got together five years ago while at university.

“After playing once in a while in and around Kingston and at the university, we found that we were playing more and more, until we decided to go at it full time,” Langlois said.
